Department of Housing Opportunities:
General Information

The Department of Housing Opportunities consists of two main components, The Housing Resource Office and Community Resources. The Housing Resource Office is where persons of low to moderate income apply for public housing whenever the waiting list is opened. The Housing Authority has an inventory of 1407 public housing units. When rental units become available we offer housing to eligible persons from our waiting list. Applications from interested families are reviewed to determine if they are eligible for the program. We have expanded our services by informing our applicants of opportunities to connect with other resources beyond the walls of the Housing Authority as we invest in the community that we serve. The purpose of the Community Resource is to serve as a “one stop shop” when persons are in need of other services in addition to housing. It is our goal to simplify the process by referring them in the right direction for the proper assistance that is needed i.e. food, shelter, utility assistance just to name a few.

Annually we give the community a chance to connect with agencies regarding jobs, health care, education and other social need. We sponsored an extremely successful coat drive and food drive offering the community more than housing assistance. We also maintain an employment board consisting of various job opportunities in our office to assist our clients in locating employment.
